ROYAL BABY!!!

OMG!!! THERE'S GOING TO BE A NEW PRINCE OR PRINCESS TO FAWN OVER!!!

And you know, I think Wills is less than a year younger than me so we pretty much grew up together and this child will pretty much be like one of my own. I'll be the cool aunt who takes them places and who they can complain to when their parents are being...parenty. On a more serious note, I hope Kate gets better soon and fingers crossed (it is a bit early to announce a pregnancy :/).

Incidentally, I was talking about something with Pooey some time ago...I can't remember what the topic was, but it related to how, when surrounded by some sort of hysteria, we got really into the topic, regardless as to whether we have any tie, emotional or otherwise, to it. I think for me, it was watching the German National Team (Die Mannschaft) play soccer/football, and supporting them enough that I feel/felt as though I should invest in a tricot. Anyway. She returned by talking about how she got suckered into the Royal Wedding last year (read the entry, it's very funny). I see that this will definitely be another such situation :D

My new obsession

DOWNTON ABBEY!!!

People have been saying for a while that I would love this series but in Germany it aired on cable (which I don't have), and it probably would have been dubbed into German (which I don't understand perfectly). Having said that, my boss said she had the DVDs and I could borrow them off her and watch it if I wanted (I don't have a DVD player at home).

Pooey gave me the files when she came and visited in June but I was instead watching Offspring, Glee, and Game of Thrones, among others. But even then, Pooey was telling me I HAD TO WATCH IT. And that I would appreciate a pair of fine (piercing) eyes in the series. Well now! But I was also told it was engrossing and given that my evenings in Munich are also taken up with cooking, gym, and social activities, I decided that the best thing I could do was watch the series while I was isolated in Bremen.

HEILIGE SCHIESSE, THIS SERIES IS AWESOME!!!

My god, it is perfect for me! Taking place from 1912 to 1914, it's a world of almost perfect civility, white-tie formality (the people upstairs), the people who make it possible (the servants), intermixed with family drama and class interaction! And there is a mighty fine pair of piercing eyes. Damn schexy ones, with great dollops of sexual tension.
In tuxedoes! Dammit, you two need to get together!

But upon completion of the first season, I discovered that Pooey didn't give me all of S2! I had to hold off watching until it was complete so I wouldn't have to be kept in suspense! Instead I decided to re-watch my favourite moments (such as when Lady Mary and Cousin Matthew flirt), but especially the tour de force awesomeness that is Maggie Smith as the Dowager Countess of Grantham.
As seen in this video!
But I've started S2 now, and it's set during WWI so this time around we get some uniform action.

And I love a man in uniform. Although I think that's a lieutenant uniform, not a brigadier.

Been a while since I featured my first husband...

These were apparently taken back in May 2011 for Russian InStyle. I don't know how I missed them!

It's really good to see you again!

Really, really good...

Iker likes chocolate milk

I haven't written much about my husband Iker in a while (probably because he's been gallivanting around with that floozy of another woman), but one of the great things about Stalkbook is that you can use it to stalk people.* We are friends on this website (naturally!) and he likes to keep  me updated on what's been going on.

So imagine my surprise when he demonstrated his love for chocolate milk!

And that he also likes to snack while surfing the net. See? Soulmates :P

*I'm not really stalking him. His photos come up on my wall out of their own volition :P *cough*

End of Year Round Up!

Wow, what a year 2010 has been! It started with me procrastinating by doing a jigsaw and then flying off to eat our way across Sydney with Lydia, and ended with me flying off to Muenchen and eating alone in Maccas! Okay, just kidding on the last part. Sorta.

After gallivanting around the nation last year, 2010 was a year of overseas travel! Sometimes I think back to September when I hit destinations such as ParisMunich & Heidelberg, Belgium, and London in that crazy, that frantic fortnight and wonder, how the !$#@ did I do that and not go crazy? But it was worth it just to say it was done! And of course, there was that Xmas run-in with Easyjet and Gatwick. I think I've calmed down from that now. However, it wasn't all gaining overseas frequent flyer points! Semi-exotic locations such as Sydney, Radelaide and the Barawesome Valley, and C-town were also visited at various points in the year. It was all good!

Movie of the year...hmmm, reading over my reviews, 2010 appears to be the year of overhyped movies leaving me feeling somewhat disappointed (Avatar, Inception), stupid movies that nonetheless left me entertained (Predators, The A-Team), surprises from movies of which I knew and expected little (Made in Dagenham, Never Let Me Go) and of course, an absolute shocker for which everyone who was associated should be put in the Abu Dhabi desert and told to make their own way back on foot as penance. According to my ratings, Toy Story 3 takes the title - in fact, I'll confess that part of the reason I didn't buy a Lotso toy when in London despite it being EXCEEDINGLY cuddly was because I couldn't get over the thought that he was EVIL!!! Honourable mentions to The Social Network and Made in Dagenham

And of course, it was a year for Eating. (Although to be honest, what year isn't for eating?) We celebrated eating at many high class establishments as well as celebrating the lower-priced end of the spectrum as well as many, many, many, many trips to eat dumplings. Other than the trip to Sydney to eat, gastronomic highlights include eating at Philippe Mouchel for R's going away party, Dr. dinner at Bistrot Vue, lunch at Cafe Vue, seeing the Duck Nazi for the last time, and of course, the epicness that was Taste of Melbourne. Gastronomic lowlights (but humour highlight!) would be those infamous bacon gumballs. Hilarity in a tin.  There was also much baking, particularly my (ultimately unsuccessful) double-barrelled shot to win the ACB Bake-Off (congrats to the Silver Fox who came second!) and of course, I finally made croissants from scratch. And then I improved the method! Mmmm, pastry. Anyway, based on the number of times I visited the place, restaurant of the year will be Horoki. Eat there. Everyone should.

Hotties of the Year....well I didn't really make any new finds so much as contiuing appreciation of previous hotties. There was of course my husband Iker:

Love the profile but I think he needs to grow that beard back!

On the theme of gingers, I made a late rediscovery of the so pale and red he's almost fluorescent Damian Lewis!

Oh, and I guess Andrew Garfield is a new one, but he looks like a kid in the google image search despite being 27 years old. Hmmm, I wonder if I have to demote him.

So to finish, 2010 was the year that I finally, finally finished my PhuD, way back in Feb, although it wasn't conferred until August (damn you examination and then conferral delay!). These events were naturally celebrated with copious amounts of alcohol given that I didn't need my brain cells anymore. *cough cough* And then after cruising along as a Tech for the Uni, finally decided to put my Phud to use and combine with it with my desire to travel by upping sticks and moving to Muenchen. Here's a to a great (European) 2011 everyone!

The Elusive Hot Ginger Male.

To be honest, I've never really understood Ginger/Ranga/Redhead jokes. I find them entertaining and join in on them but I never really understood why people would get picked on due to their hair colour. *shrug* One thing we have figured out (another one of those tea-room conversations) is that red-headed women are hot, red-headed men are not. Ewan McGregor being the sole exception that we could agree on. Now, I would like to add another one to the list. But again, I accept that people may disagree!

Watching TV over the past few days in Rundon, I became reacquainted with one Damian Lewis.

Not the clip we saw.

Soph and I both agreed - he was hot! No doubt helped along with that voice! But you may wonder why I said 'reacquainted'. Well he was also in Band of Brothers as Maj. Richard Winters:

Speaking with an American accent - booo!

But also as Soames Forsyte in The Forsyte Saga

Complicated man, Soames Forsyte. I still can't decide if he's horrible or misunderstood.

Not too many people can rock an Edwardian costume. Not many at all. And he's done more recent stuff (most notably, Life) but I think the supplied clips are enough evidence of hotness! So yes, the current count for hot Ginger males currently stands at 2. Any other nominations?

Bieber Fever, or why I have never been happier to be considered a strange girl

It's moderately late at night and I have my usual late night TV on - music channel for some background sounds while I do my computery things - and they've just gone and played this song:

(I used this other than an actual clip so you could all see the lyrics - baby, baby, baby nooooo!)

Now apart from the fact that this song is kinda horrendous, apparently this fellow was in Australia over the weekend (the below clip was filmed in Sydney). I had a bit of a full weekend and wasn't paying much attention to what was going on, but these these kinds of things happened:

And I'm guessing it wasn't the crap music that drove them to these heights of insanity. But this entry is not about a kid who is 16 but looks and sounds like he's 12 and has the hair flick down pat, no. It's about teen female hysteria.

This was partially discussed in the lab today between Laulita, Colleen and myself where we discussed who were the *It Boys* that we squealed over.

For C, it was Jonathan Taylor Thomas.
(Source)

Laulita 'fessed up to pretty much chasing Billy Zane out of a shop in Melbourne
(but that's understandable - he's a cool dude.)

But speaking for myself, I could not think of a single one whose pictures I used to paper my walls, bothered to go see in person, or who could drive me to tears and fainting spells. I remember Auntie had an entire wall of her room covered in posters of New Kids on the Block, not to mention many other pieces of fan paraphernalia around her room. And then there were the scenes of hysteria when Boyz II Men visited Melbourne Central but it got overcrowded and so was shut down, Bieber style. I could not for the life of me think of some heartthrob celebrity of my teen life who could have made me scream out their name, wave my arms in the air, and just...I don't know...act like a teenage girl. It's like there was/is something wrong with me. But if not acting like a deranged, squealing, obsessive stalker results in being labelled *abnormal*, I will wear that tag with pride.

Of course, when I hit the ripe of old of 27, I made this photoshop:

So maybe it was just a case of delayed development :P

Hollywood Hair - Redux

I've had long hair....pretty much all my life. I prefer it, it makes me feel nice and girly. But I do get tired of the effort I put in washing, blow drying, curling...not to mention all the hair balls when it falls out during those those events. So I've been thinking of cutting it short.

You know that that means. A trip back to the InStyle Hollywood Makeover site!!!

After a few goes doing a few styles that I'd never EVER wear...

Carey Mulligan, Christina Hendricks (Why do I look like a man? Don't answer)

Rihanna!!! Whitney!!!

I then moved on to trying other things out.

Mmmmm, I don't think a heavy fringe is me (Vanessa Hudgens)

Katie Holmes Aunty Hair

Camilla Belle Aunty Hair (with perm!)

Ashley someone bob

Jennifer Hudson bob with swept fringe.

I kinda think this might be poll-worthy!

My shameful celebrity crush - Stephen Colbert.

Or perhaps not! (Sorry, I'm watching The Colbert Report instead of doing work).

From his 2008 Presidential bid,

to being knighted by Queen Noor of Jordan in 2009 (Source),

the 2006 White House dinner speech

and making truthiness a real word, is there a better comedy crush out there?

Even he says no. Think about it - he even looks like an older version of some members of my Box of Hotties!

Me + Hollywood Hair = Skank

So Vanillabear felt like she should get a hair makeover and to help her decide which style to use, she decided to use the InStyle Hollywood Makeover website. I will confess to being slightly fascinated by these types of programmes - which girl hasn't wondered what she'd look like if she could be made up to look like a movie star?!

Photobucket
With Jessica Alba's hair... ummm....no, doesn't suit.

They're also quite fun for doing things like messing with hair colour - clearly I would look terrible with blonde hair in real life but with the magic of The Interwebz, we can now tell how it would go!

Photobucket
Blonde like Amanda Seyfried (Mama Mia!/Mean Girls)

One thing I also noticed while using this was that Hollywood women have HUGE hair. Like....HUGE!!! And a lot of it too! I know this is due to hair extensions/weaves to make their hair look more lustrous and full but on an ordinary person (i.e. Me), it looked downright ridiculous.

Photobucket
With Blake Lively's (Gossip Girl) HUGE hair
Or as Pooey said when I showed this pic to her - OMG!!! YOU LOOK LIKE ONE OF THOSE ASIAN SKANKS IN THE CLUBS!!!

Highly recommended for a good afternoon laugh or procrastination time!

The Types of Hot - Amendment

We have decided to add a new type of Hot to the list!

The Nerdy Hot. Alright, what really happened was that I overlooked this category. The Nerdy Hot is guy is probably very awkward, with a hottie quality that is not obvious and therefore overlooked. But when you scratch the surface, you realise...wow, they're HOT!!! Usually found wearing glasses, in the library, on a computer, or possibly smarter than your average hot guy.

THE CONCHORDS, Bret and Jermaine!
Others include John Krasinksi, Sufjan Stevens, Robert Downey Jnr (sexiest Sherlock Holmes ever)

Feel free to suggest/denigrate more categories!

The Types of Hot

I have been involved in discourse with a number of people about the different kinds of *hot* that exist in the population. So far, we have managed to isolate five different types, however we are aware that many more species of hot may exist in the wild beyond our reach.

Classic Hot
The Classic Hot guy is someone who is almost universally regarded as being good-looking, whether the viewer be male or female. Men want to be him, women want to be with him. They look great in both polished and rough situations but are often at their peak in a tuxedo.
Examples of the Classic Hot are George Clooney, Paul Walker, Kaka, and Iker Casillas.

Pretty Hot
Pooey describes the Pretty Hot as one of those guys who, if he had a daughter, she would turn out quite pretty. They often have beautiful long eyelashes or other features that make women jealous.
Such guys include Yoann 'Lashes' Gourcuff, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Jensen Ackles.

Dirty Hot
Two Yellows defined the phrase 'dirty hot' - "He is the type of guy who would do unspeakable things to you, that you will thoroughly enjoy, but you will never be able to tell anyone about it...that sexy bitch." Princess Roza also gave the input that Dirty Hot guys are the ones with whom you indulge in 'Hate F@#ks'. You know the type.
Adam Levine, Marat Safin (oooh yeah), and David Villa are some of these sexy bitches.

Psycho Hot
Perhaps it's a certain expression on his face. Sometimes it's the contrast between the dark features and the pale eyes. It could possibly be that weird murderer vibe you get from him when he's staring at you with those pale eyes and strange expression. Or maybe it's the way licking blood off his face and glove makes you think it's sexy instead of disgusting.
Photobucket
Psycho Hot (lady) killers include Gaspard Ulliel, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Cillian Murphy.

Ugly Hot
The most contentious type of Hot as this category is completely subjective. These are guys who would not be considered handsome in the classical sense, in fact they might be downright ugly. However they have a certain je ne sais quoi that renders them highly attractive, even if all your friends (male and female) are retching in revulsion.
The perfect example of ugly hot, Adrien Brody.

Here endeth the lesson. However one of the cornerstones of higher education is the questioning of ideas and methods. If you disagree with any of the categories and examples, feel free to speak up in the comments section!

R.I.P. The King of Pop

Let's forget the eccentricities and ignore all the crazy things he got up in more recent times and remember that which made him famous - all that great music.

*Edit 28/6/09* Okay, so my plan to have a youtube video fest to celebrate his life was scuttled by all the genuine solo vids having embedding disallowed. Instead I've spent the last two days scouring the site for fan vids. Enjoy!

Hope you find some peace with Elvis and Tupac in that great nightclub in the sky, and here's to looking forward to some excellent posthumous music!

Old School Hotties - Edition Homme

A while ago I did a post on old-school Hollywood actresses who aged gracefully. Since then, I've been thinking of compiling a similar lists for male actors and here it is. Unfortunately while all the females on my list are still alive, all the men on my list are deceased and some of whom grew old and fat before then. Tant pis. Let's get this list on the road!

Paul Newman.
Seriously, what more do I have to say after posting this photo?! Apart from being a hottie right up until old age, he was also awesome at giving to charity and married to the same woman for 50 years. Awesome.

Marlon Brando
Forget the fat and bloated old Brando. Watch A Streetcar Named Desire (1951), especially the 'STELLA!!! STEEELLLLLAAAAAAA!!!!' scene and imagine the madness when this movie was shown to 110 girls (as so happened when it was shown at my school).

Gene Kelly
All singing, all dancing, some people prefer the top and tails of Fred Astaire but Gene's dancing was more physical and, dare I say, masculine? Plus, I don't see the equivalent of the 'sexy' or 'what a hottie!' threads present on Gene's IMDB board on Fred's!

Marcello Mastroianni
Geez, where would I start on Marcello...I suppose all I can say is that Caramelbear considers Marcello her only older man. Yes, he is that smooth he overrides her tendency towards young emos.

Gregory Peck
The man of honour in To Kill a Mockingbird, the romancer in Roman Holiday, looks good in a suit, that voice... Atticus Finch, the enigmatic and yet somehow obtainable perfect man. *sigh*

and I don't really rate him, but I'm just going to put in this photo of young Elvis for the orangehoodies.

In other news, I'm pleased to find that Sean Penn has discovered the errors of his way and decided to get back with Princess Buttercup. Good for all!

Happy Birthday, mi esposo!

I'd just like to wish my husband Iker Casillas a happy 28th birthday. To celebrate, please enjoy this picspam.

If only you played for Barca...oh well. Te quiero, mi marido and I'll join you in the BA28 clubhouse soon!

Ummm....okay

Caramelbear said this needed to be done, to prove once and for all that yes, I am the Asian Julie Delpy.

Okay, not the best pic of my mother but *shocked dog face.*

WTF?!?!?! YOU CAN DO BETTER!!!

So I come into work today and Pooey has stayed awake (it would have been about 1am in Meldon) to tell me some Very Important News.

My reaction was this:
Now I'm in a state of zombie-shock.

I suppose if you're a young ambitious actress, Sean Penn might be alright cos you know, he's got two Oscars and contacts but....Natalie Portman is no talentless hack!

When you look like this

and you used to date this

why would you move onto this?!?!?!

People I allegedly look like.

This post is inspired by the drunk guy who was sitting next to me at the wedding yesterday who said that he thought I looked like....

Also I have a friend who for some reason thinks I look like...

For other crazy lookalike, see here and here!
