Sydney - day 1

That's right! We went to Sydney for Xmas! And by we, I meant me, Pooders, Spuders, and Ma. It started off with Pooey potentially working in Sydney for the post-Xmas sales, but when that fell through, we decided that the two of us would just go to be tourists. Then Spu found that he wasn't scheduled on for the same period and purchased himself a ticket. Then Ma heard about it and wanted to come as well! Pa and Thai also considered purchasing tickets and thus creating what we realised would be our FIRST EVER WHOLE FAMILY HOLIDAY...but alas, it was not to be.

Despite it being a beautiful warm and dry day in Melbourne, it was raining like crazy in Sydney. Full on torrential rain. Rain that Sydney people (like our cab driver) like to call 'Melbourne weather'. Luckily for us, our plan was simply to wander around Chinatown (which we knew would be open), so after swinging by Morning Glory because they were fortuitously having a sale on umbrellas (heh), we headed off to old favourite Seoul Ria for dinner.
Home of a famously rickety elevator. I still love this sign taped about the button.

We ordered a variety of dishes, all wonderfully accompanied by various colourful Korean pickles and sauces.

Pooey and Ma. Apparently Ma had never eaten Korean food before?

Check out my short hair! Spu also said he hadn't eaten much Korean food before, so me and Poo chose a whole selection of things to provide an overview to our family members. This consisted of our old favourites...

Seafood pancake!

Yuk hoe bibimbap. Just like normal bibimbap but with raw beef.

Jap chae potato noodles with beef

and of course, Korean BBQ. We chose a combination that had bulgogi, pork belly, chicken, and squid.

We were all pretty stuffed after this and slowly made our way across George St. to World's Square to see if the supermarket was open  (it wasn't - boo)
but we got to see the pretty decorations in there.

We crossed back over to Sussex St even though the rain was still bucketing down.
Pooey stopped to get us all some emperor's puff.

Puffeh!

The weather was a bit too much for Ma so we headed back to our apartments to get ready for the next day!
